Clofibrate is a drug used in cases of high levels of cholesterol and triglycerides, which should be taken during meals, to help regulate the levels of VLDL, LDL and triglycerides in the blood.

This medication can be purchased in conventional pharmacies in the form of pills, but only with a doctor's prescription.

What is it for

Clofibrate is indicated in the treatment of excess cholesterol and triglycerides in the blood, when it was not possible to reduce it with dietary changes alone.

How to use

The dose must be adjusted by the doctor, according to cholesterol and triglyceride levels, however, general recommendations indicate the daily intake of 2 to 5 tablets of 400 mg, during or after meals.

Possible side effects

The main side effects of clofibrate include nausea, vomiting, excess gas, burning in the throat, stomach pain, diarrhea and muscle pain.

Who should not take it

Clofibrate is contraindicated for pregnant women, nursing mothers and patients with liver or kidney disease. In addition, it should not be used in people allergic to clofibrate or any other component of the formula.
