Absten S is a slimming drug that contains Mazindol, a substance that has an effect on the hypothalamus on the appetite control center, being able to reduce hunger. In this way, there is less desire to eat food, facilitating the weight loss process.

This medication can be purchased in conventional pharmacies with a medical prescription, in the form of 1 mg tablets.

What is it for

Absten S is indicated to facilitate the treatment of obesity, in people who are eating a balanced diet and practicing regular physical exercise.

How to take it

The dose of this medication must be calculated by the doctor, according to each case, however, most of the time it is done as follows:

  • 1 tablet, three times a day, one hour before meals; or
  • 2 tablets once daily.

The last tablet of the day should be taken 4 to 6 hours before bedtime.

Possible side effects

Some of the more common side effects of Absten S include dry mouth, increased heart rate, nervousness, insomnia, diarrhea, feeling sick, drowsiness, headache, increased sweating, nausea, vomiting, palpitations or cramps.

Who should not take it

This medicine is contraindicated for children under 12 years old, pregnant women, breastfeeding women and people with allergies to some of the components of the formula, states of agitation, glaucoma, history of drug or alcohol use, undergoing treatment with MAOIs or with cardiovascular diseases such as arrhythmia, high blood pressure or diabetes.

In some cases of psychosis, such as schizophrenia, this medication should not be used either.
