Some teas, such as ginger tea, peppermint tea, or fennel tea, can help relieve the feeling of nausea or vomiting caused by poor digestion, stomach pain, gastritis, ulcers, or even by pregnancy, as they have substances with properties that help reduce vomiting and stomach contractions, in addition to calming the gastrointestinal tract.

Although they do not serve to replace medical treatment, teas are a good option to relieve nausea and vomiting, and can be used to complement the treatment indicated by the doctor.
The main teas that help fight nausea are:
1. Ginger Tea
Ginger tea is rich in phenolic compounds such as gingerol and chogaol that have a natural antiemetic action.
This tea can be used in cases of heartburn, poor digestion, pregnancy and even to relieve nausea and vomiting caused by chemotherapy or radiotherapy treatments.
- 1 cm sliced or grated ginger root;
- 1 liter of boiling water.
Bring the water to a boil and add the ginger. Let it boil for 5 to 10 minutes. Remove the ginger and drink the tea in 3 to 4 divided doses throughout the day, 20 minutes before meals.
Another option for making tea is to replace the root with 1 teaspoon of powdered ginger, which must be diluted in boiling water.
Ginger tea should be avoided by people who use anticoagulants such as warfarin or acetylsalicylic acid, as it can increase the risk of bleeding or hemorrhage. In addition, pregnant women should not use more than 1 g of ginger a day, and it is recommended to drink the tea for a maximum of 3 days in a row.
This tea should also not be used close to childbirth or by women with a history of miscarriage, clotting problems or who are at increased risk of bleeding.
2. Peppermint Tea
Peppermint tea, prepared with the medicinal plant Mentha piperita, is rich in volatile oils, such as menthol and menthone, which have anti-inflammatory, antispasmodic, calming and analgesic properties, which help to relieve nausea or vomiting caused by stomach pain, poor digestion or gastric ulcer, for example.
- 2 to 3 tablespoons fresh, dried or crushed peppermint leaves;
- 150 mL of boiling water.
Place the peppermint leaves in a teacup and fill with boiling water. Let it rest for 5 to 10 minutes and strain. This tea should be drunk 3 to 4 times a day.
Peppermint tea should not be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding, in addition to not being indicated in cases of gastroesophageal reflux, as it can cause increased gastric sensitivity.
3. Fennel tea
The fennel tea has anethole, havol and camphor in its composition, substances with antispasmodic, anti-inflammatory, analgesic and digestive action, which help to relieve stomach inflammation, decrease the burning sensation and increase emptying stomach, being an excellent home remedy option to reduce nausea or vomiting, especially in cases of poor digestion or reflux.
- 1 tablespoon of fennel seeds;
- 1 cup of boiling water.

Fennel tea should not be used by pregnant or nursing women.
4. Chamomile Tea
Chamomile tea is rich in phenolic compounds such as apigenin, quercetin and patuletin, with anti-inflammatory and gastrointestinal tract calming properties that help relieve gastrointestinal problems such as poor digestion, colic, gastritis or ulcers, for example, which can cause nausea or vomiting.
In addition, chamomile has calming properties that can help relieve nausea caused by anxiety situations.
- 2 teaspoons of dried chamomile flowers;
- 250 mL of boiling water.
Add the dried chamomile flowers to a cup of boiling water, cover, let stand for about 5 to 10 minutes and strain before drinking.
This tea can be drunk 3 times a day, and if necessary it can be sweetened with a teaspoon of honey.

5. Licorice tea
Licorice has glycyrrhizin in its composition, which is a substance that helps reduce stomach acidity, in addition to protecting the gastric mucosa, and can be very useful to relieve nausea or vomiting caused by heartburn, gastric ulcer, stomach pain or poor digestion, for example.
- 1 teaspoon licorice root;
- 1 cup of boiling water;
- Honey to sweeten to taste.
Add the licorice to the cup of boiling water, cover and let it rest for 10 minutes. Strain and sweeten with honey if desired. Drink this tea up to 2 times a day.
Licorice tea should not be consumed by pregnant or breastfeeding women and by people with high blood pressure, heart problems or kidney disease.
6. Boldo tea
Boldo tea, prepared with the dried leaves of the Chilean boldo or fresh leaves of the Brazilian boldo, is rich in boldine and rosmarinic acid, substances with digestive, anti-inflammatory, anti-spasmodic and astringent properties, which help to reduce stomach acidity and aid in the digestion of fats, being very useful to relieve nausea caused by heartburn, poor digestion, gastritis, hangover or food intolerance, for example.
- 1 teaspoon minced boldo leaves;
- 150 ml of water.
Add the chopped boldo leaves in 150 mL of boiling water. Let it rest for 5 to 10 minutes, strain and drink it warm right away, 2 to 3 times a day, before or after meals. Another option is to have a cup before bed to help digestion after dinner.
Boldo tea can cause side effects, especially when consumed in excessive amounts and for more than 20 days, in addition to being contraindicated for pregnant women by people with acute hepatitis, gallstones, inflammation of the bile ducts or pancreatitis.
7. Lemon Tea
Lemon tea contains limonene in its composition, which helps relieve nausea caused by anxiety, poor digestion or constipation, as it has calming properties for the stomach and intestinal stimulants.
- Half a glass of water;
- 3 cm of lemon peel.
Boil the water and then add the lemon zest. Cover for 3 to 5 minutes and then drink, still warm, without sweetening.
8. Cumin tea
Cumin tea is rich in luteolin and apigenin, with anti-inflammatory and antispasmodic action, which help relieve nausea, cramps and gas, caused especially by irritable bowel syndrome.
- 1 tablespoon of cumin leaves or 1 teaspoon of seeds;
- 200 mL of boiling water
Add the cumin to the boiling water, cover and let it rest for 10 minutes. Strain and drink a maximum of 2 to 3 cups of this tea per day.
9. Clove tea
Clove tea helps to reduce pain and inflammation in the stomach, as it has eugenol in its composition, a substance with anti-inflammatory and analgesic action, being a good option to relieve nausea or vomiting caused for stomach ache, for example.
In addition, this tea can also be used to soothe a sore throat.
- 10 units of cloves;
- 1 cup of water.
Put the cloves and water on to boil for 5 minutes and cover. Allow to cool, strain and drink twice a day.
10. Lavender tea
Lavender, also known as lavender, is another good option to relieve the feeling of nausea or vomiting, caused especially by anxiety attacks or labyrinthitis, for example, as it has substances with calming and relaxing action.
- ½ teaspoon of lavender flowers;
- 1 cup of boiling water.
Add the lavender flowers to the boiling water and let it rest for 10 minutes. Strain and drink 1 cup a day, before bed.
Lavender tea should not be taken by pregnant women or people with stomach ulcers or who are allergic to lavender essential oil.
11. Star anise tea
Star anise tea is rich in phenolic compounds with antioxidant and digestive action that help relieve nausea caused by poor digestion, especially after heavy and fatty meals.
- 1 tablespoon of star anise;
- 500 mL of boiling water;
- Honey to sweeten (optional).
Place the boiling water in a cup and add the aniseed. Cover, let cool, strain, sweeten with honey and drink. Drink this tea 3 times a day while cold symptoms remain.
