The spots left by pimples are dark, rounded and can remain for many years, especially affecting self-esteem and impairing social interaction.

This type of blemishes usually appear due to an increase in melanin in the epidermis, which can happen after popping a pimple, when there is prolonged exposure to the sun or due to intense hormonal changes.

The people most affected by the appearance of pimples are those with darker skin or black skin, and these spots do not lighten on their own, requiring some treatment to even out the skin tone.

The ideal is always to consult a dermatologist to find out which treatment or treatments are most appropriate. However, they usually include:

1. Exfoliate and moisturize your skin daily

Using a good exfoliator helps to remove dead cells, preparing the skin for greater absorption of the product that will be applied next. A good homemade recipe is to mix:

  • 1 pack of plain yogurt;
  • 1 tablespoon of cornmeal.

Preparation method:

Mix the ingredients and apply on washed skin, rubbing lightly over the entire area with circular movements. You can use a piece or cotton pad to not dry your fingers. Afterwards, you should wash your face with water and hydrating soap, and then you can apply a whitening face mask, leaving it on for a few minutes.

2. Use depigmenting or skin lightening products

The dermatologist may recommend the use of a whitening cream, gel or lotion, containing any of the following ingredients:

  • Kojic acid which has a gentle action on the skin and does not cause irritation, but it takes 4 to 8 weeks to notice its benefits, and the treatment can take up to 6 months.
  • Glycolic acid is more suitable for peeling removing the outermost layer of the skin,
  • Retinoid acid can be used to prevent new skin blemishes;
  • Hydroquinone can also be indicated, but it is essential to use sunscreen during treatment to avoid aggravation of dark spots on the skin, such as Clariderm, Claripel or Solaquin.

These acids can also be found in higher concentrations for use in the form of peeling, which consists of removing the outermost layer of the skin, favoring the formation of a new, stain-free layer. See how the peeling is done and the care you should have.

3. Perform aesthetic treatments

Aesthetic treatments, such as pulsed light and laser, also help to even out skin tone and, despite being more expensive, provide better results in less time. The result is progressive, it is recommended to do about 5 to 10 sessions in a row, with an interval of 1 week to notice the difference in the before and after.

4. Maintain essential daily care

It is essential to use sunscreen every day to prevent the harmful effects of the sun on the skin, the ideal is to use a sunscreen that is suitable for the face and that does not have an oily formulation, which can cause even more acne.

It is also advisable to keep the skin always well hydrated and nourished, eating foods rich in vitamin E daily, such as almonds and Brazil nuts. Carrot juice with orange is also a good option because it contains beta-carotene, a precursor of vitamin A that helps to restore the skin.
