Cobavital is a remedy that has two substances in its composition, cobamamide and cyproheptadine hydrochloride, which act by stimulating the production of muscle mass and increased appetite, being normally indicated for anorexia, convalescence or delay in child growth.

This drug can be found in pharmacies or drugstores in the form of micro-tablets, containing 1 mg of cobamamide and 4 mg of cyproheptadine hydrochloride, and can be used by adults or children over 2 years of age.

Cobavital should be used with medical indication, with individualized doses, according to age and the condition to be treated.

What is it for

Cobavital is indicated for the treatment of:

  • Child weight and height disorders, which correspond to a delay in child growth;
  • Convalescence, recovery from illness or surgery;
  • Anorexia;
  • Asthenia, which is the general feeling of weakness and lack of energy.

Cobavital acts by increasing appetite and muscle mass production, and should always be indicated by the doctor, evaluating he alth conditions individually.

How to use

Cobavital should be taken orally, before a meal, with doses normally recommended depending on age and include:

  • Children from 2 to 6 years: the normally recommended dose is 1/2 to 1 microtablet, twice a day, or as directed by the pediatrician;
  • Children over 6 years: the normally recommended dose is 1 micro-tablet twice a day. The total daily dose should not exceed 8 mg of cyproheptadine, which corresponds to 2 microtablets of Cobavital;
  • Adults: the normally recommended dose is 1 microtablet three times a day. The total daily dose must not exceed 12 mg of cyproheptadine, which corresponds to 3 microtablets of Cobavital.

Cobavital microtablet can be diluted in water, milk, juice before taking, or dissolved in the mouth.

If you forget to take the dose at the right time, you should take it as soon as you remember but if it is close to the time for the next dose, you should skip the missed dose and wait for the next time to take it. In no case should the dose be doubled to make up for the missed dose.

The treatment time and dose of Cobavital can be changed according to the doctor's discretion.

Possible side effects

The most common side effects that may arise during treatment with Cobavital are sedation or drowsiness, which usually improve after three to four days of treatment.

Although they are rare, side effects such as dryness of the mucous membranes, headache, nausea, blistering of the skin, agitation, mental confusion or visual hallucinations may also occur.

Who should not use

Cobavital should not be used by children under 2 years of age, or by people with angle-closure glaucoma, urinary retention, peptic ulcer or intestinal obstruction.

Furthermore, Cobavital should not be used by people who are allergic to any of the components of the formula.

Because it contains cyproheptadine in its composition, Cobavital should not be used by pregnant or breastfeeding women, unless recommended by a doctor.
